AI in Diagnostics

BRITE Institute is seeking volunteers interested in advancing the use of AI to improve medical diagnosis. We welcome machine learning specialists, AI engineers, data scientists, and clinicians who want to help develop safer, more effective diagnostic tools.

AI has enormous potential to detect disease earlier, reduce diagnostic error, and support clinicians in complex decision-making. At the same time, these systems must be carefully designed and evaluated to ensure they improve—not compromise—patient safety.

Volunteers may contribute to activities such as reviewing emerging technologies, exploring diagnostic use cases, developing research ideas, or helping analyze data and literature.

This is a flexible, intellectually engaging opportunity to collaborate with researchers working to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.

Internships:

• Currently pursuing, or have completed, a degree in computer science, engineering, data science, medicine, public health, or a related field
• Interest in AI, machine learning, or healthcare diagnostics
• Ability to contribute to literature reviews, research support, or technical exploration
• Curiosity and willingness to learn about AI safety and diagnostic decision-making

Contributor:

• Professional experience in machine learning, AI engineering, data science, healthcare, or clinical practice
• Familiarity with AI applications in diagnostics, clinical decision support, or medical data
• Ability to contribute technical insight, practical use cases, or industry perspectives

Coaches:

• Extensive experience in AI/ML or diagnostics
• Deep understanding of diagnostic systems or AI development
• Willingness to provide strategic guidance, mentorship, or research collaboration
• Interest in advancing safe, responsible AI in medical diagnostics
