Participate in research shaping national security and public policy. Work with top scholars to improve government risk management and protect millions through better decisions, smarter strategies, and real-world impact.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming healthcare — from diagnostic algorithms to AI-assisted triage and autonomous clinical decision tools. Yet the policies governing these systems often lag behind the technology itself. Decisions made today by regulators, lawmakers, and healthcare leaders will shape patient safety, clinical standards, and public trust for decades.
At BRITE Institute, we focus on strengthening risk management in high-stakes socio-technical systems. This internship centers on the policy landscape surrounding AI in healthcare: how governments regulate medical AI, how safety standards are developed, and how oversight mechanisms can prevent harm while enabling innovation.
As a volunteer research assistant, you will join an active project examining issues such as regulatory frameworks for medical AI, liability and accountability structures, safety culture in AI companies, and the integration of AI into clinical environments. Based on your interests and strengths, you will contribute to tasks including literature reviews, policy analysis, structured interviews, survey design, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and drafting research reports or policy briefs.
You will work alongside scholars and practitioners with affiliations to institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, and Stanford, contributing to research intended to inform policymakers, healthcare leaders, and AI developers.
This internship is ideal for students and early-career professionals interested in public policy, medicine, law, bioethics, national security, or AI governance. If you are motivated to ensure that AI improves patient outcomes without introducing unacceptable risks, this role offers an opportunity to engage directly in shaping the future of AI in healthcare.
