Put your data skills to work on problems that matter. As a data science volunteer, you’ll support research that keeps people alive and well—analyzing real-world risks, shaping smarter decisions, and helping save lives through evidence-based insight.
The right data—analyzed correctly—can save lives and prevent catastrophe. At BRITE Institute, we use data to uncover hidden risks, determine best courses of action, and inform policy. A good analysis often stands between insights which means hundreds of thousands of lives saved and ineffective action and hundreds of thousands of deaths.
Now, we’re looking for data science volunteers who want to apply their skills where they matter most.
As a Data Science Assistant, you’ll work with datasets in critical fields like healthcare, public safety, biosecurity, and emerging technologies. You may help analyze medical error patterns, model pandemic risk, or visualize trends in infrastructure failure. You’ll collaborate with leading researchers and help translate complex data into insights that drive impact.
This role is ideal for students or early-career professionals with foundational training in statistics, data analysis, or computer science. You’ll gain practical experience, build your portfolio, and contribute to high-impact research—all while working on a team dedicated to solving urgent global challenges.
If you have the mathematical foundation for data science, you can join us through either the team member or independent contributor track.
